Your voice, at the centerPersonal attentionPractice with purpose
A little less pressure. A little more you.

You don’t need a script.
You need space to practice.

A good conversation starts with feeling comfortable enough to be yourself.

I help students discover what they want to say—and practice saying it. We work together to turn everyday experiences, interests, and ideas into thoughtful conversations that feel natural.

The goal is simple: help you walk into your college interview ready to express yourself and connect.

How we can work together

Personal support.
Meaningful practice.

01 / Find your voice

One-on-one coaching

A supportive space to explore who you are, what matters to you, and how to share it with someone new.

  • Recognize stories in your own experiences
  • Practice talking about interests and goals
  • Prepare thoughtful questions of your own
  • Build confidence without memorizing answers
02 / Put it into practice

Mock interviews

Try a realistic interview conversation in a low-pressure setting, with constructive feedback and room to try again.

  • Practice introductions and common questions
  • Work through follow-up questions
  • Notice what sounds natural and clear
  • Leave with specific areas to keep practicing
Try a starting point

Big stories often start
with small moments.

You don’t need an extraordinary achievement for every answer. Start with something real: a curiosity, a responsibility, a moment that changed your perspective.

A question to think about
What’s something you enjoy learning about—even when no one assigns it?

Think about what draws you in, and why. There’s no single right answer.

The process

From “Where do I start?”
to “I can do this.”

01

Start with you

Talk about your experiences, your interests, and what feels challenging about interviews.

02

Practice together

Explore questions, develop your stories, and get comfortable with the give-and-take of conversation.

03

Make it your own

Use thoughtful feedback to find a way of expressing yourself that feels clear, confident, and true to you.

Jill Holt, founder of Beyond the Application
Meet your coach

Hi, I’m Jill Holt.

I believe students have something worth saying. Sometimes, they just need a little help finding the words.

Founder · HR & recruiting professional · PHR certified

My background spans human resources, recruiting, and staffing, including work as an HR business partner and a People and Culture manager. Interviewing and getting to know people have been central to that work.

I created Beyond the Application to bring that experience to high school students preparing for college interviews. My focus is helping students recognize what makes them who they are—and feel comfortable sharing it.

Together, we’ll explore their interests, experiences, and perspectives, then practice turning those thoughts into a natural conversation. I want each student to feel heard, supported, and ready to speak in their own voice.

A parent’s perspective

Support that makes a difference.

“Her patience, encouragement, and practical strategies helped him feel more confident, prepared, and comfortable expressing himself.”

— Parent of a student

Good questions

A few things to know.

Who is the coaching for?

High school juniors and seniors preparing for college interviews, including students who feel nervous, don’t know where to begin, or simply want more practice.

Are sessions online or in person?

Both. Coaching and mock interviews will be offered online and in person. We’ll discuss the in-person location and scheduling options during your introductory call.

Will I be given answers to memorize?

My focus is on helping you express your own experiences and perspective. We’ll practice ways to organize your thoughts while leaving room for a natural conversation.

Is this college admissions consulting?

Beyond the Application focuses on interview preparation and self-expression. Coaching does not guarantee admission or replace a college counselor’s guidance on applications and college selection.

How do I book a session?
